It was designed to treat patients with severe aortic regurgitation, which is when the heart's aortic valve does not close properly, allowing blood to leak backward into the heart. ProMedica was among the first 25 hospital systems to offer the treatment, allowing a minimally invasive alternative to open heart surgery.
