Multi-Billion-Dollar Data Center Announced in Michigan, Largest One-Time Investment in State History

A multi-billion-dollar data center that’s part of OpenAI’s Stargate project has been announced for Michigan, making it the largest one-time investment in state history. The data center is expected to create 450 permanent, high-skill jobs as well as 2,500 union construction jobs. The data center is planned to be located in Saline township in southeast Michigan’s Washtenaw County. OpenAI said construction is expected to begin in early 2026.
