Ohio Turnpike Announces 2026 Construction Projects by County04/23/2026The Ohio Turnpike has announced its 2026 construction projects by county, with work expected in Fulton, Lucas, Wood, Ottawa, and Sandusky Counties. The Turnpike plans to spend nearly $247 million on pavement improvements and work on multiple bridges. The Ohio Turnpike provided a complete list of projects in northwest Ohio counties below:FULTON COUNTYOne mainline resurfacing project and one mainline bridge deck replacement project in Fulton County include: All lanes and shoulders will be resurfaced both eastbound and westbound from milepost 33.7 to 38.9.The project is underway and has an estimated completion date of Oct. 19, 2026. Two lanes of traffic will be maintained during the day, with traffic reduced to a single lane at night for the work. The mainline bridge over Bad Creek (milepost 41.3) will be widened to the inside and the existing bridges will be redecked.The project is underway and has an estimated completion date of Dec. 1, 2027. Two lanes of traffic in each direction will be maintained during the project, with periodic single-lane closures during off-peak hours. LUCAS/WOOD COUNTIESOne mainline bridge deck replacement project stretching from Lucas County to Wood County includes: The westbound mainline bridge over the Maumee River (milepost 63) will be redecked.The project is ongoing with construction estimated to be completed on Nov. 15, 2026. Two lanes of traffic in each direction will be maintained during the project, with periodic single-lane closures during off-peak hours. The project will continue in 2027 and 2028 to complete work to the eastbound structure and restore traffic to the original alignment. WOOD COUNTYOne mainline resurfacing project in Wood County includes: All lanes and shoulders will be resurfaced both eastbound and westbound from milepost 66.7 to 70 and the left lane and left shoulder will be resurfaced from milepost 70 to 74 both eastbound and westbound.The project is ongoing and is estimated to be completed in September 2026. Two lanes of traffic in each direction will be maintained during the project, with periodic single-lane closures during off-peak hours. OTTAWA/SANDUSKY COUNTIESThe bridge repainting projects spanning Ottawa and Sandusky counties include: The overhead bridge at State Route 51 (milepost 80.9) will be repainted.The overhead bridge at Dischinger Road (milepost 81.5) will be repainted.The overhead bridge at Toll Plaza 81 (Elmore-Woodville-Gibsonburg) Ramp (milepost 81.9) will be repainted.The mainline bridge over Waggoner Road (milepost 83.3) will be repainted. Estimated start date is May 4, 2026, with an estimated completion date of Oct. 30, 2026. Two lanes of traffic in each direction will be maintained during daytime operations, with traffic reduced to a single lane at night for the work. Toll Plaza 81 will have temporary exit and entrance ramp closures (about 30 days) and will be detoured. One lane bi-directional traffic on Waggoner Road will be maintained with a temporary signal. The North Coast Inland Trail will be temporarily closed and detoured for about 45 days. SANDUSKY COUNTYThe bridge deck replacement projects and a truck parking expansion project in Sandusky County include: The overhead bridge at Yorktown Road (milepost 100.2) will be redecked.The overhead bridge at Vickery Road (milepost 101.3) will be redecked. Estimated start date is May 2, 2026, with an estimated completion date of Dec. 13, 2026. Two lanes of traffic in each direction will be maintained on the Ohio Turnpike during the project. Local roads will be closed and detoured. Erie Islands Service Plaza truck parking expansion (milepost 100 westbound):The project is ongoing with an estimated completion in July 2026.
