Westfield, Indiana's National Night Out

The Westfield Police Department will join more than 17,000 communities across the country in observing National Night Out on Tuesday, August 4, from 5 to 8 p.m. at its new location, Grand Junction Plaza, 225 S. Union St.

National Night Out is an annual nationwide campaign that strengthens relationships between law enforcement and the communities they serve through family-friendly activities, public safety education and neighborhood engagement. The event was previously known as Jake Laird Day and continues Westfield's tradition of bringing residents and first responders together in a fun, welcoming environment.

"Far too often, people meet police officers on one of the hardest days of their lives," Mayor Scott Willis said. "We want our residents to know their officers long before an emergency, which is why we transitioned to a community-based policing model earlier this year. National Night Out is an extension of that community-first approach and provides an opportunity for residents of all ages to build relationships with the officers who serve their neighborhoods."

The free event is open to the public and will feature complimentary food, inflatables, face painting, temporary tattoos, music, and interactive activities for the whole family. Attendees will also have the opportunity to meet Westfield police officers, learn more about the department's community policing initiatives and connect with other public safety partners.

National Night Out is designed to strengthen police-community partnerships, promote neighborhood camaraderie and foster a shared commitment to creating safer, more connected communities.
