Weather Causing Road Salt Shortage in OH

An aggressive start to the winter season in northwest Ohio has led to early supply chain challenges for snow removal contractors, resulting in salt shortages and rising operational costs. While previous winters in the region have been relatively mild with lower snowfall totals, this season has presented a different challenge: frequent ice and freezing rain.  One contractor says the nature of the recent storms has forced companies to rely heavily on salt rather than snowplows. The high frequency of these "salt outings" has drained stockpiles faster than anticipated. One source is saying they have already more than half of the salt they had allocated for this winter season.
