Sugary Drinks, Candy Will No Longer Be SNAP Eligible in Indiana Jan. 1

Sugary drinks and candy will no longer be eligible through Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits in Indiana soon. The new effort called Indiana Smart SNAP comes after the USDA approved the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration’s food restriction waiver in May. That’s in response to Governor Mike Braun’s Make Indiana Healthy Again executive order to improve nutrition statewide. Indiana Smart SNAP will start on January 1st.
