Public Hearing on Charter School

A meeting took place Thursday to hear public comments on whether a new charter school should be allowed to open in Fort Wayne.  Nearly 200 people gathered to support and oppose the school.  A decision about the Williams Arts and Technology Academy is expected in 10 to 12 days. The feedback provided by the 14 randomly selected speakers represents a fraction of input the University of Southern Indiana has received about the school founded by longtime educator D. Faye Williams-Robbins.  The proposal faces opposition from Fort Wayne Community Schools.  It stands to lose funding if the charter school is approved.
