Ohio Lawmakers Considering a Veto Override03/09/2026Ohio lawmakers are moving closer to ending the sales and use tax exemption that data centers have utilized for more than a decade. The Ohio General Assembly attempted to eliminate the exemption as part of the operating budget, but that provision was vetoed by Gov. Mike DeWine. A veto override requires 60 votes in the Ohio House and 20 votes in the Ohio Senate. Ohio Speaker of the House Matt Huffam of Lima said Wednesday the data center sales and use tax exemption might have made sense years ago, when the facilities were only being built in states like Oregon and California. The Ohio House is expected to override the veto if it comes to a vote.
