Ohio Gov. DeWine Warns of High Sales Tax if Proposed Property Tax Elimination Passes02/09/2026A proposed constitutional amendment in Ohio that seeks to get rid of property taxes could cause sales taxes to jump, according to Governor Mike DeWine. He said eliminating property taxes could cause sales tax to go up to 17%, or as high as 20%, and would negatively affect numerous entities that receive the funding. The measure requires signatures from voters in order to be on the November ballot.
