NTSB Releases Final Report on 2023 Plane Crash11/11/2025The final report on the Michigan plane crash that took the lives of Indiana couple Randy Strebig and Allison Wheaton in November 2023 has been released by the National Transportation Safety Board. The agency said the cause of the crash was the airplane taking off with visible ice and snow accumulation on the wings and other components, causing an aerodynamic stall before crashing. The airplane’s operating handbook said that all snow, frost, and ice must be removed from the plane’s surfaces during preflight inspection. The report said that Strebig had a flight review and instrument proficiency check about seven months before the accident, which included training in winter conditions. Toxicology results also detected ibuprofen in Strebig’s (stree-big) system.
