Northeast Indiana Eyed Again for Potential Casino Despite No Official Development11/06/2025Talks about northeast Indiana being a potential site for a relocated casino are happening again after a study released by the Indiana Gaming Commission. The Steuben County Commissioners this week showed interest in being part of any possible discussions to relocate a casino license. It comes after the study cited Interstate 69 and State Road 8 in Auburn as a “proxy point” for a casino – meaning a hypothetical location. Auburn Mayor Dave Clark issued the following statement:"As many residents may have seen, the Indiana Gaming Commission recently requested a study to determine potential locations for a casino in the state. I was not aware of this study and was certainly caught off guard when I first learned on the evening of October 29th that Spectrum’s report listed Auburn as a potential location. At this time, the City has not been approached by any developers or casino operators, nor has the City had any discussions regarding a project of this nature. If the City were to be approached, I would make transparency a top priority. We would hold a town hall meeting to give residents the opportunity to share their thoughts and perspectives. Public input is very important to me. I was elected to represent the people of Auburn, and any decision of this magnitude should reflect the voice of our community." -Auburn Mayor Dave Clark Casino relocation has also been opposed by State Senator Tyler Johnson and State Representative Ben Smaltz over possible negative effects to the community associated with gambling. No developers have approached Auburn or Steuben County for a license, and a casino relocation would require the Indiana General Assembly’s approval.
