NCCOS: Annual Algal Bloom Covering 100 Square Miles in Western Lake Erie

The annual algal bloom in western Lake Erie now covers an area of about 100 square miles. The National Centers for Coastal Ocean Science says that’s a decrease in area since July 23rd. The bloom’s cyanobacteria concentrations are present from Monroe, Michigan to Port Clinton, Ohio with higher concentrations in Maumee Bay.
