Michigan Health Officials Investigating Cyclosporiasis Outbreak

Michigan health officials are investigating a growing outbreak of cyclosporiasis. It’s an intestinal illness caused by a microscopic parasite that creates a variety of gastrointestinal symptoms including:

Cyclosporiasis spread through contaminated produce. As of June 30th, more than 170 cases have been reported in southeast Michigan, particularly Monroe and Lenawee counties. No cause has been identified, but health officials recommend thoroughly cleaning fruits and vegetables and refrigerating them as soon as possible.
