Miami Nation Plan a Cultural Project

The Miami Nation is announcing that a cultural project that has been years in the making, is now in the formal planning stages. The tribe says it was able to reclaim property in Fort Wayne after submitting a non-gaming fee-to-trust application to the federal government. The 22 acres of undeveloped land sit along the west bank of the St. Mary’s River, not far from the existing Waynedale property where events such as Miami Indian Heritage Days are held.  The Miami Nation plans to transform the site at 4900 De Forest Avenue into a public park and walking trails. An exact timeline has not been disclosed, but the tribe said the land will eventually be used for cultural education.
