Maumee City Council Asks Mayor MacDonald to Delay Retirement; City Council Election Heads to Recount11/25/2025After Maumee, Ohio Mayor Jim MacDonald announced his retirement, four newly elected city council members are asking MacDonald to delay his retirement date. The four incoming council members said they’re asking for the delay because Council President Gabe Borrow would become mayor, leaving the outgoing council members to appoint a replacement. Their concerns are rooted in the timing and how it could affect council succession. Meanwhile, the Maumee City Council election is heading to an automatic recount after the Lucas County Board of Elections certified the results yesterday. There were only 11 votes separating fourth place candidate Dave Poeppelmeier and fifth place candidate Andrew Huyghe. The race was for four open positions.
