Lucas County Residents with Cyclosporiasis Encouraged to Complete Health Department Survey

TOLEDO, Ohio — The Toledo-Lucas County Health Department (TLCHD) is urging Lucas County residents with confirmed cyclosporiasis to complete a survey from the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) to support the ongoing investigation into the current Cyclospora outbreak.

Individuals with confirmed cyclosporiasis will receive a text message from the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) containing a unique link to complete the survey. Each survey link is unique to the recipient and should not be shared or forwarded to anyone else.

TLCHD will follow up with individuals who have not completed the survey to answer questions and provide assistance, if needed. For more information about ODH’s survey process, please visit the Ohio FoodCORE Center webpage.

"Completing the survey is an important step in helping us identify potential sources of exposure and protect the health of our community," said Karim Baroudi, Health Commissioner with the Toledo-Lucas County Health Department.

The information collected through the survey will help public health officials identify potential sources of the outbreak and how the contamination is spreading. Timely responses from affected individuals are critical to support the investigation and protect the health of the community.

The Health Department will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as additional information becomes available.

As a reminder, anyone experiencing symptoms of cyclospora infection should contact their healthcare provider for diagnosis and treatment. Many digestive illnesses have similar symptoms but very different treatments. If left untreated, an individual may experience cyclosporiasis symptoms lasting from a few days to a month or longer, often with symptoms returning after initial improvement.
