July 20th Focus on Area Move Over Laws

In the hope of keeping the highways safe, four states are making a one-day high visibility effort to help motorists understand the move-over laws in their respective states.  Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky and Pennsylvania state troopers will be watching for motorists on Monday, July 20th who fail to move over and slow down to at least 10 mph below the posted speed limit when passing emergency or service vehicles that are pulled over onto the sides of a roadway. Michigan officials say that they hope to make Monday an educational day rather than have to write tickets in the future by addressing dangerous driving behaviors.  Michigan has had 13 instances this year when patrol cars were struck while they were conducting traffic stops.
