FWPD Will Not Continue With Flock Audio System

Fort Wayne police say they aren’t moving forward with Flock’s audio detection system amid a debate over whether to keep the company’s license plate readers in the city.  Fort Wayne Police Department Sgt. Chris Felton confirmed that the department notified Flock on Thursday that it will not move forward with the audio detection system past the trial’s conclusion at the end of August. The system alerts officers about 45 to 60 seconds after sounds like gunfire, screams or car crashes.  As for the license plate readers, the Fort Wayne City Council is currently scheduled to vote on renewing its $120,000 contract with Flock Safety for its AI-powered surveillance camera system on Aug. 25.
