Fort Wayne Sends Cease and Desist Letters

Fort Wayne has put an Indianapolis mental hospital and an addiction center on notice to stop dropping off homeless people at the doorstep of the Rescue Mission.  City officials say that they sent letters notifying the Indy facilities that they were in violation of a new Fort Wayne ordinance that prohibits other cities from transporting people experiencing homelessness to Fort Wayne.  Violations could result in fines of $2500 being issued to the offending city or agency. The ordinance addresses two issues, the first being the strain on local resources. The second is that when someone from out of town is dropped off in an unfamiliar place with no guidance, they’re no better off than they were before.
