Fort Wayne Community Responds to Recent Series of Shootings

07/07/2026

The Fort Wayne community is reacting to this weekend’s violent incidents and calling for action. The organization Big Hearts Community Projects held an event geared toward men to address the causes of such incidents. Meanwhile, Mayor Sharon Tucker issued the following statement:

"My heart is heavy today as I think about the recent violence that has occurred in our city.
I’m praying today for peace for our community. It saddens me that senseless acts of violence with guns have resulted in multiple deaths, several more people being injured, and two little innocent children being victims as well.
Many families have been impacted. It’s my hope that they can find comfort today through the love and support of family members and all of Fort Wayne.
We must value life. It’s so precious. We must get back to respect and care for one another.
If you have any information, please contact the Fort Wayne Police Department. We have to stop making it comfortable for people to terrorize our community. Those who create chaos don’t get to  determine the outcome.
I have confidence in the Fort Wayne Police Department as they continue their investigations. Those responsible will be brought to justice.
We will get through these challenges together. It won’t be easy, but I know that our residents will rise up and help ensure that Fort Wayne will bounce back and be stronger and more united than ever before."

-Fort Wayne Mayor Sharon Tucker
