City Program Improves City Vehicle Safety

Fort Wayne has seen a nearly 25% drop in accidents involving city vehicles since May 2025, a milestone that Mayor Sharon Tucker on Thursday credited to a new workplace safety initiative. City employees operate about 2,100 vehicles. Launched 13 months ago, the program established a Safety Review Council, expanded OSHA training opportunities and created new ways for employees to report safety concerns and recognize co-workers for safe behavior.  It was started to counter a five-year trend of rising OSHA-recordable injuries and vehicle accidents among city workers.
