Canada Wildfire Smoke Persists 07/17/2026As you can probably see and smell, smoke from Canadian wildfires is moving through northeast Indiana. State officials have issued an air quality alert for today. The conditions mean it's unsafe for people with breathing problems to be outside. Even healthy people are warned not to exert themselves through exercise or other strenuous activity. The Environmental Protection Agency warns that smoke contains fine particles that can get into your eyes and respiratory system. That particulate matter can cause burning eyes, runny nose and illnesses, such as bronchitis.
