It’s a type of irregular heartbeat that can cause long-term heart damage and even strokes. Risk factors for AFib include age, genetics, high blood pressure, diabetes, and thyroid conditions. Parkview Heart Institute says reducing the risk of AFib includes a healthy diet, exercise, losing weight, and managing chronic conditions.
