Allen County Council Questions How Fire District Grant is Being Spent

Allen County Council members are asking how the unified fire district's $200,000 grant is being used. The county is bringing several fire districts and departments into the state's first countywide fire district that will cover the area outside Fort Wayne limits. County officials last year approved a $200,000 grant to pay for the the Allen County Fire and EMS Protection District's executive fire chief's salary this year and other costs related to the transition, including a vehicle and uniforms for the district's leader.  One county councilwoman  says she was surprised to hear that the funding is being used for other costs, such as exploring locations for fire stations.
