New Exhibitions and Food Drive at Artlink 05/13/2021 – 06/06/2021 Artlink Contemporary Gallery at 300 E Main St in Fort Wayne, IN is pleased to present concurrent solo exhibitions by Rita Grendze and Lauren Scavo-Fulk. Hunger by Rita Grendze - Assembled from woven grocery bags and staples, this exhibition features a large-scale immersive installation titled Belly. Grendze's work developed throughout the pandemic, invites conversations about food, food insecurity in America, and the softening of middle-aged bodies. This exhibition also includes a sub-series of Grendze's daily drawings titled Fading Perfume. During the exhibition, in solidarity with Forward Indiana (@forwardindiana), Artlink will be accepting food donations for the free community food pantries installed throughout Fort Wayne. We will have themed weeks for suggested donations, though all non-perishable items will be accepted. The themed weeks are as follows: May 13 - May 16: Ready to eat (ex: granola bars, jerky, crackers, etc..) May 20 - 23: Breakfast items (ex: cereal, protein drinks, powdered milk, etc..) May 27 - 30: Microwave foods (ex: ramen, mac & cheese, popcorn, etc..) June 3 - 6: Hygiene items (ex: toothbrushes, soap, pads, etc..) Meet the Artist: Grendze will be at Artlink on Sunday, June 6 from 3 - 5pm to meet visitors and answer any questions about her work. Rita Grendze is an installation artist who lives and works in the western suburbs of Chicago. Her work has been exhibited in several prominent galleries in Chicago and across the United States. She was awarded a grant to study in Latvia where she made several 30’x50’x15’ panels which were on display at the Latvian National Library. Common Ground by Lauren Scavo-Fulk This collection of small-scale charcoal drawings examines the connection between human consciousness and the surrounding environment by presenting the viewer with scenes of heightened atmosphere that allow for experiential moments of reflection and attention to both physical and nonphysical elements of the natural world. Meet the Artist: Scavo-Fulk will be at Artlink on Friday, May 28 from 4 - 5pm to meet visitors and answer any questions about her work. Lauren Scavo-Fulk is a Pittsburgh-based artist whose small-scale drawings focus on the relationship between human consciousness and the external environment. She is a recent MFA graduate from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Her work has recently been exhibited at Manifest Gallery in Cincinnati, OH; Buckham Gallery in Flint, MI; Hoyt Center for the Arts in New Castle, PA; Hopkins Center for the Arts in Hopkins, MN; the Westmoreland Museum of American Art in Greensburg, PA; ArtSpace Gallery in Richmond, VA; Dacia Gallery in New York, NY; and Sweetwater Center for the Arts in Sewickley, PA.
