According to a new study of prime time TV shows conducted by the Parents Television Council, explicit language referencing male and female private parts has become far more frequent in prime time.
In an article in the LA Times, The PTC reported that in just nine episodes of the CBS sitcom 2 Broke Girls, characters used a certain word for female anatomy over and over again—as if it were no big deal.
When adding the use of that particular word use on all TV shows this past fall, the PTC found that it was used 35 times. But listen to this--the word for male private parts was used 116 times!
The Council identified 7 shows as the worst offenders: CBS's 2 Broke Girls and Two and a Half Men, NBC's The Office and 30 Rock, Fox's American Dad and Family Guy and ABC's Grey's Anatomy.
Parents Television Council president Tim Winter says this about the trend: "It's a broader reflection of the progression of raunch. So many shows and networks seem to think they need it to be funny or successful."
If you’re a follower of Jesus Christ, here’s a hard question for you—do you watch any of the shows I just mentioned? If so, have you considered what kind of spiritual impact it may be having on your life?
And think about this-- If Jesus was sitting next to you on the couch, would you be embarrassed for him to see what you’re watching?
