The Paleo diet and others similar to it urge people to avoid grains, but Dr. Ann Kulze weighs in on a new study that suggests avoiding all grains might not be the best approach for disease prevention. And is it possible to reverse the age of your heart? Dr. Ann offers her thoughts on ways we can slow down the aging of our heart – and she looks at some of the hottest healthy foods in 2015. Dr. Ann answers your nutrition question too, in the second half of the show!

Our friend PeggySue Wells kicks off our February Author Author show with her delightful new novel, Fur Elise (Elk Lake, ISBN#978-1942513001), which weaves the beauty of music, island life, and love. Wendy Blight’s Living So That (Thomas Nelson, ISBN# 978-1-4016-7925-5) offers a fresh approach to understanding verses that inspire a call to action in the lives of believers. Ann-Margret Hovsepian brings volume two of her devotional for girls, called Truth, Dare, Double Dare (Cook, ISBN#978-1-4347-0211-1). Debra Coty urges women to discover God’s intentional, unconditional, without-limits love in her book Too Loved to be Lost (Shiloh, ISBN# 978-1-62836-969-4). Fiction lovers won’t want to miss Rebecca DeMarino’s debut novel, A Place in His Heart (Revell, ISBN# 978-0-8007-2218-0), which takes us back to the 1600’s and the move to the New World. And we wrap up with Rebecca Dawson’s exploration of the gift of impulsive children and what she has found to be Stamped on Every Child’s Heart (Blue Room, ISBN# 978-0-615-82982-1).

Though we don’t like to think about it, we have to be prepared for the possibility of a predator in the pews. Deepak Reju spends the hour with us examining why child predators target churches and offering strategies to protect our children from abuse within the walls of the church (and how to help victims recover if it happens). He urges the churches to respond with prayerful action and be On Guard (New Growth Press, ISBN# 978-1-939946-51-5) for the safety of the young lives worshiping among us.

Remember that one day when you put on the outfit...or teased the hair a full foot higher than your head...or smeared on the bright blue eye shadow...and stood back to find the reflection in the mirror very good? How is it that reflecting on a photo of that day, say, 20 years later, leaves you with a bit of a different impression? We would love to hear about your best WHAT WAS I THINKING!?!?!!?!? fashion moment...and if you are brave enough to share your picture with us, we'd love that even more. And don't worry! We'll bring our own best-of moments.

We have every reason in the world to worry. Every reason except one: we are encouraged, even commanded, not to worry by the God of the universe. Amy Simpson returns to Mid-Morning to help us rightly divide appropriate fear and clinical anxiety from the worry that God would have us leave behind. She points us to Scriptures that invite us to greater trust, and practices that help us live in confidence, rather than Anxious (IVP, ISBN# 978-0-8308-4314-5). Whatever keeps us up at night, the God who made us and loves us watches over us and offers rest for our souls.

Listen Now Number of listens: 0 Download File Number of downloads: 0

Parenthood looks very different than it did 50 years ago…and one of the big differences is the amount of moms raising kids on their own. Raising kids – especially boys – without a dad in the picture is a big task, and on Wednesday’s Mid-Morning, Clinton Faupel offers practical examples of how to keep your sons emotionally healthy in a predominantly female environment. In the second half of the show, you can call or email to talk to Clinton about your parenting teens questions!
