Fort Wayne Community Schools hosts a public information meeting Wednesday at Elmhurst High School. The school could close as part of the District’s efforts to cut the annual budget by 15 million dollars. The meeting begins at 6 p.m. at the school, 3829 Sandpoint Road.
East Allen Considers Budget Cuts
East Allen Schools held a public meeting last night to discuss how to cut 4 million dollars from their budget. Among the ideas: dropping teaching assistants and charging for extracurricular activities such as athletics and band. The school board will hold another public meeting on March 23rd.
Senate Votes Today on Jobless Benefits
The Senate takes a final vote today on a
measure to extend benefits for the long-term unemployed and
reinstate some popular tax breaks for businesses and individuals.
It's expected to pass over protests from conservatives who say it
adds too much to the $12.5 trillion national debt.
Council Rejects Gender Identity Bill
Fort Wayne City Council has killed a bill making it illegal to discriminate on the basis of gender identity. The bill was introduced by 2nd District Council Woman Karen Goldner. Council last night voted 5-4 not to consider the bill. It would have put gender identity in the same class as race and religion under the city’s anti-discrimination law.

A new poll says most Americans can't
stand Congress. The latest Associated Press-GfK poll finds support for
Congress has dropped significantly since January to a dismal 22
percent as the health care debate drags on.
