Larry Bower

WBCL News Director Larry Bower holds his first place award from the Indiana Associated Press Broadcasters Association.  He won first place in the Metro Radio Long Form Newscast category, and second place in the Metro Radio Best Feature category.  The awards were presented at the annual Associated Press awards banquet in Indianapolis.

Welcome Home Voices of Unity!
Fort Wayne and Allen County officials are staging a big “Welcome Home” today for the Voices of Unity choir after their triumphant gold-winning performance at the World Choir Games in China. You’re invited to the event today at noon at One Summit Square at the corner of Wayne and Calhoun.

Immigration Ruling Brings Protests
Thursday was a day of protests across the country against Arizona's new immigration law. In Phoenix, dozens were arrested outside a downtown jail. Federal authorities say the judge who placed the heart of the law on hold has received threats. The state has asked an appeals court to lift the suspension.

Congressman Rangel Faces Trial
Veteran Congressman Charles Rangel faces a committee trial for 13 violations of congressional ethics standards. Charges against Rangel include accepting favors and benefits from the donors that may have influenced his congressional actions.

Michigan Oil Spill Update
A Canadian company at the center of a huge oil spill in Michigan has a history of pipeline problems, including leaks, an explosion and dozens of regulatory violations. Enbridge Inc. or its affiliates have been cited for 30 enforcement actions since 2002 by the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration.

Deadly Month in Afghanistan
July is officially the deadliest month for U.S. troops in Afghanistan since the war began nine years ago. Three more American GIs have been killed, raising the month's total to 63. A NATO statement says the soldiers died in two separate blasts in southern Afghanistan.
