Immigration Ruling Brings Protests
Thursday was a day of protests across the
country against Arizona's new immigration law. In Phoenix, dozens were arrested outside a downtown jail. Federal authorities say the judge who placed the heart of the law on hold has received threats. The state has asked an appeals court to lift the suspension.

Congressman Rangel Faces Trial
Veteran Congressman Charles Rangel faces
a committee trial for 13 violations of congressional ethics
standards. Charges against Rangel include accepting favors and
benefits from the donors that may have influenced his
congressional actions.

Michigan Oil Spill Update
A Canadian company at the center
of a huge oil spill in Michigan has a history of pipeline
problems, including leaks, an explosion and dozens of regulatory
violations. Enbridge Inc. or its affiliates have been cited for 30
enforcement actions since 2002 by the Pipeline and Hazardous
Materials Safety Administration.

Deadly Month in Afghanistan
July is officially the deadliest
month for U.S. troops in Afghanistan since the war began nine
years ago. Three more American GIs have been killed, raising the
month's total to 63. A NATO statement says the soldiers died in
two separate blasts in southern Afghanistan.
