Two years ago, Katrina was an equal opportunity disaster, destroying thousands of homes with her wind and water. Thousands of slabs now represent spaces where homes once stood. Residents of Gulfport and Biloxi eagerly give credit to Christ-followers who have come to help them rebuild. But there is still so much to do - still so many hoping that someone will help them rebuild.

WBCL is partnering with Hope Crisis Response Network - HCRN is a not-for-profit 501c3 organization located in Northern Indiana. The mission of HCRN during times of disaster is to:

  • coordinate and deploy volunteers, resources, and financial assistance to the affected areas;
  • serve as advocates to help victims obtain assistance from appropriate agencies and organizations;
  • assist in devising and implementing post-disaster long term recovery plans for local communities.

Hope City - Gulfport is a modern campsite of bunkhouses and kitchen & dining facilities for housing weekly volunteers.

Prayer Needs:

Client Brenda is continuing to battle serious health issues. She was recently hospitalized again.  Her home is enclosed and volunteers are now completing interior work.  She currently lives in a small FEMA trailer with her granddaugher and great-grandson.

Client David needs grant funding for materials to rebuild his home.  He recently applied to the Long Term Recovery Committee and lives in his damaged home, which is not safe or adequate.

Four new homes under construction by Hope City volunteers.  Footers and foundations for four new homes were poured in April and in-coming teams will have a great deal of construction work to complete.

Client Rushel W., an 80-year old disabled man with a great attitude.  His paperwork was misplaced by another agency and unless the folder surfaces he will have to begin all over in applying for grant funding to rebuild his home.  He would share the rebuilt home with his elderly brother.
